Noah de Villiers, Producer

Noah grew up in Cape Town, where he is currently a producing student in his final year of film school at AFDA. A performer by trade, Noah is a part-time student at the Byron Bure Academy of Theatre Arts and has played roles in numerous local theatre productions. His passion for film came from a desire to better understand the entire filmmaking process, as well as his love for stop-motion animation, which was the focus of his high school art journey. Although his focus lies with producing, he is also a capable editor, which furthers his innate desire to tell emotionally nuanced stories.

Marthe Strand, Producer

Marthe is a proud Norwegian, born and raised in the north of Norway. She came to AFDA in the middle of second year to complete her producing degree. She has always been fascinated by art and creativity, and found a love for filmmaking after high school. After studying film for 2 years in Norway, she realised she had a talent for organisation and coordination, and therefore chose to focus her study on producing. Marthe also has a love for photography and constantly brings a camera to go, either disposable, polaroid or her Sony A6000 to photograph her surroundings and friends.

Lumka Sibeko, Director & Writer

Lumka hails from Durban, South Africa known for its sunny days and friendly people. Her love of the arts steamed from her admiration of the theatre productions she watched and this carried into her love of performing in school plays, which she did all through her schooling career. Her interest in direction sparked in her final year of high school when she directed a small play of her own. Coming into AFDA, she was excited to pursue a career in the art of performance, but was drawn to the process of film conception and writing. She hopes she will leave AFDA a more confident and imaginative creative.

Zaid Lagadien, Cinematographer

Zaid was born and raised in Cape Town. Growing up in a beautiful and culturally diverse city, he has grown a great appreciation for nature, people and adventure. During high school Zaid had the opportunity to explore his technical skills by working on projects through sound and picture. He is an aspiring cinematographer and sound designer, with a desire to use his skills to tell stories that spark conversations about life, with the hope that people will leave feeling inspired and seeing the potential that lies within.

Mishka Titus, Editor

Mishka was born in Cape Town and has lived here all her life. She has always had a passion for stories and all the ways they can satisfy the soul and inspire conversation. Since starting at AFDA and learning about editing and sound design in particular, she has found an aspect of storytelling that, from a technical but still creative position, allows her to bring to life the stories she feels most moved by. She aims to grow as a storyteller by learning from the industry professionals she will work under, bettering her skills in multiple departments and developing her own style.

Alexander Mackenzie, Sound Designer

Alexander was born in Johannesburg and moved to Cape Town at the age of 2 where he was raised. Alexander came to AFDA to pursue his passion and love for films and filmmaking. Alexander chose AFDA to learn and become a cinematographer but instead found an interest in Sound Design. He now attends his Third year and aspires to be a professional Sound Designer and film maker and looks forward to making his mark in the industry.

Michael McGowan, Colourist & DIT

Michael was brought up in Cape Town and is a graduate of Bergvliet high school. He had his first introduction to theatre through the Helen O’Grady theatre program where he developed a love for performance arts. Through his research and learning through theatre, he developed a passion for both music and film. It wasn’t until late in his teen years that he dedicated his focus towards film production and aspired to have an occupation within this specific field. In 2018 he enrolled at AFDA Cape Town where he is currently studying to a film degree specialising in colour grading and in the role of digital imaging technician.

Khaleel Tayob, Visual Effects Artist

Khaleel grew up in Johannesburg and later moved to Cape Town where he continued his schooling before attending AFDA in 2018. This is his 3rd year at the institute where he is studying a BA in film and motion picture and specialising in Visual Effects and Editing. The reason he study film is because he says that every project that he does will never be the same and thus letting him face new problems where he has to solve in creative ways. The reason he chose those specific disciplines is because he really enjoys expressing himself through the medium of visual effects and also it leaves the door open to create anything.

Isabella Duisberg, Production Designer
